The first MotoGP race

In 2004, Lusail International Circuit was inaugurated with the MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar and has been hosting this thrilling two-wheel race ever since.

2008

Night racing starts

Since 2008, thanks to a lighting system with 3600 bulbs, it has been possible to race at night at Lusail International Circuit.

2021

Formula 1® gets on track

In 2021, the first Formula 1® Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix took place at Lusail International Circuit, filling the void left by the Australian Grand Prix.

2023

Lusail International Circuit Upgrade Project

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ started implementing the Lusail International Circuit Upgrade Project in December 2022. The construction was completed ahead of the Formula 1® Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2023. The Lusail International Circuit also hosted its first-ever MENA Karting Championship.

2024

20th anniversary of the circuit

Celebrating 20 years, Lusail International Circuit hosted the 2024 Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 KM - 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and 2024 MotoGP™ Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar across back-to-back weekends. The legacy of MotoGP continues at Lusail International Circuit.

Lusail International Circuit proudly hosted the 2024 Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 KM – 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship Prologue and the Season-Opener. The event was named the Qatar 1812 KM in honour of the country's National Day.

Lusail International Circuit gets a refresh

Lusail will see all the grit and glamour of Formula 1® racing return to Qatar. Following an extensive renovation in 2023, the circuit now boasts increased seating capacity (40,000), new viewing zones for fans, lush green spaces, more parking and larger pit boxes.
